South Africa on Tuesday welcomed the English edition of the fifth volume of “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” at a high-profile promotional event held in Johannesburg, drawing approximately 200 guests from government, academia, media, and the diplomatic community.
The newly released volume, published in July 2025, compiles key speeches, talks, instructions, and correspondence by Chinese President Xi Jinping between October 2022 and May 2024.
The book presents China’s approach to advancing Chinese-style modernisation and is being positioned as a valuable reference for countries of the Global South pursuing their own development paths.
Speaking at the event, South Africa’s Minister in the Presidency for Planning, Monitoring, and Evaluation, Maropene Ramokgopa, praised the publication and highlighted the deepening strategic partnership between South Africa and China.
She noted shared priorities including poverty alleviation, industrialisation, infrastructure development, and technological cooperation.
The launch was co-organised by the Chinese Embassy in South Africa and ChinAfrica magazine, underscoring Beijing’s ongoing public-diplomacy efforts across the African continent. Similar promotional events for the series have been held in multiple African capitals in recent months.
The “Xi Jinping: The Governance of China” series, now spanning five volumes, has been translated into numerous languages and distributed worldwide as part of China’s effort to explain its political philosophy, development model, and foreign policy vision to international audiences.
