For the economy of any city, town, village, or country to grow, mobility is essential. In Hammanskraal, people rely on various modes of transport daily, including buses and taxis. The Hammanskraal Taxi Organisation (HATO) has been transporting passengers from different parts of the community to various destinations for the past 54 years.
Speaking to the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of the organisation, Makoma Skosana, he said: “We are one of the oldest organisations in the transport industry, which is why we see ourselves as the wheels of the nation. When we started, we had only one route and a few members back in 1970. Today, we have grown stronger and better. Currently, we have 150 members, and our fleet serves ten routes daily. HATO decided to introduce a uniform about five years ago,” he said.
Skosana continued: “Since we introduced the uniform a few years ago, our services have improved significantly. It is easier for passengers to identify us. Besides, it has also helped us look more professional,” he mentioned.
The organisation has an office where passengers are encouraged to report any concerns they might have. Drivers are also regularly reminded to treat passengers with respect and to follow traffic rules at all times.
“As an organisation, we expect our drivers to treat our clients with respect and be responsible on the road,” Skosana concluded
