The Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Jerome September, hosted the official send-off for the 2025 Journey of Discovery delegation of 10 students. The event was attended by the Consul General of the People’s Republic of China in Johannesburg.

On November 27, 2025, Mr. Pan Qingjiang, Consul General of China in Johannesburg exchanged views with the delegation of student leaders of Witwatersrand University before their visit to China.

Consul General Pan briefed with the significance of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China.

He further elaborated on China’s development achievements and vision from four perspectives: driven by innovation, defined by green development, rooted in the people, and committed to cooperation and mutual benefit.

Consul General Pan encouraged the visiting students to get a better understanding of China’s history, culture, and modernization through field trips to China, and enhance mutual understanding between the youth of two countries.

The team of Dean September, Tshegofatso Mogaladi ( Deputy Dean of Student Affairs) and student representatives thanked the Consulate General for its support and said they looked forward to a fruitful visit to China and would continue to strengthen communication and jointly promote China-South Africa friendship.

This student development programme aims to equip student leaders with global exposure to innovation, youth leadership, and cross-cultural engagement for sustainable development, through a structured study tour across a range of sectors in China.
