South Africa and Mozambique have signed more than 70 agreements and MoUs across various sectors; including agriculture, defence, health, transport, and investment—strengthening decades of bilateral cooperation and partnership.

His Excellency President Cyril Ramaphosa has arrived in Maputo, Republic of Mozambique, on a working visit for the 4th South Africa–Mozambique Bi-National Commission from 2-3 December 2025 at the invitation of His Excellency President Daniel Fransisco Chapo.

jointly launched Sasol Hydrocarbons Processing Intergrated Infrastructure on occasion of the 4th South Africa – Mozambique Bi-National Commission at Inhassoro, Inhambane Province in the Republic of Mozambique.

President Ramaphosa  commended the government of Mozambique and Sasol for the realisation of this facility, which is important for  shared energy security, development of broader economic and social infrastructure. Furthermore , it will deepen regional industrial development.
 
 For South Africa, reliable access to gas resources is key to diversifying the country’s energy mix.

This new facility will deliver gas, light oil and cooking gas for domestic markets, while simultaneously supporting power generation and downstream opportunities.

President Ramaphosa emphasised the need to amplify cooperation through deeper collaboration in energy, mining, infrastructure, agriculture, financial services, telecommunications, health, tourism and hospitality, noting that both countries are richly endowed with natural resources on land and offshore.

Highlighting Mozambique’s status as a major trading partner, President Ramaphosa called for the exploration of new opportunities in defence and security, including strengthened collaboration on border management.
