The Nan Hua Performing Arts Group—also known as the Tianlong Team—is changing lives through rhythm, culture, and education.

Founded in 2014 by the leadership of FGS Nan Hua Temple under the guidance of Master Hsing Yun, the group was established as a free charity education project with a powerful mission: to empower young Black South African women through performing arts, cultural training, and language education.

A New Chapter in 2025

This year marked another vibrant chapter for the group as the 2025 training program launched successfully.

Integrated with Kids Arts Training Courses and ongoing outreach initiatives, the program continued to bridge cultures while building practical skills for future opportunities.

In July, the group hosted a series of dynamic sessions. On 12 July 2025, participants engaged in Kids Arts Training classes featuring African and Chinese drumming.

Just two weeks later, on 26 July 2025, another workshop highlighted both drum traditions, showcasing the harmony of African and Chinese cultures coming together through music.

These sessions formed part of the group’s broader community outreach, which also supports schools and disability-focused projects across South Africa.

Empowerment Through the Arts

At its heart, the Nan Hua Performing Arts Group is more than just a stage project—it is a platform for transformation.

Young women enrolled in the program gain not only artistic training but also the confidence and skills to actively participate in society.

The training covers:

  • Traditional Chinese drumming
  • African percussion and marimba
  • Dance and drama
  • Mandarin Chinese

Through this unique combination, participants are encouraged to embrace their heritage while opening doors to new cultural perspectives.

Building a Brighter Future

The impact of the program extends far beyond the classroom. Graduates walk away with improved communication skills, confidence in public performance, and the foundations for careers in the creative arts.

More importantly, they gain the tools to achieve economic independence and step into leadership roles within their communities.

By blending Chinese and African cultural art forms, the group promotes unity, cross-cultural appreciation, and lifelong learning.

Throughout 2025 and beyond, the group remains committed to its vision: empowering through education, inspiring through art, and building bridges across cultures.

As the rhythms of African drums meet the beats of Chinese traditions, this initiative proves that the language of art can transform lives and shape brighter futures—one performance at a time.
